Stitching and Watercolouring

Hello!

There is a lot of inspiring stitching and watercolouring in blogland at the moment.  I have to thank Virginia Lu for having a stitching themed challenge over at Virginia's View.  It is something that I haven't really tried on my cards before but I decided to make it the focal point of this card and I like the look :)

I stamped some arrows from Uniko Studio in pale grey as a guide for my stitching and combined the stitched images with a great sentiment from Mama Elephant.  The sentiment is coloured with blue wink of stella.  Finally, I matted the main panel on some blue vellum.

I have also been practising my watercolouring using some of the great techniques that the designers have been demonstrating.

I white embossed the Looped Flower background from Hero Arts and used a range of distress inks - Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed, Worn Lipstick and Spiced Marmalade.  I white embossed the sentiment from Hero Arts Messages with Flourish set on vellum and added some black for contrast.

I hope you are enjoying some creative time this weekend.  Thanks for your visit :)

  1. Sarah, you can do them all....I LOVE your take on stitching challenge! The way to use stitching as your focal point is so masterfully executed! I love the soft color and the stitching looks AWESOME! Hope this challenge inspired you to incorporated stitcing into your future card designs! (see, it's not so hard, is it!?) Thanks SEW much for playing Virginia's View Challenge!

  2. Great cards, Sarah! The stitching is beautiful, and I love the way you have incorporated vellum into both cards. It makes me realize I need to think to use it more! Your watercolor card is wonderful - I should have taken the watercolor class to learn more about it. It intimidates me! But your card inspires me to want to try it more. Thanks also for stopping by my blog and for your sweet comment!

  3. How clever you are to stitch those arrows, Sarah! Very cool design and I love the color combo! Your water colored background on the Loop Flower is gorgeous! You achieved really nice blending with your inks and the white embossing really makes the pattern pop...Love both cards!
