Less is More #281

We have a fun technique for our theme at Less is More this week - faux bleach!  I had a look online for some info about what is involved and Jennifer Maguire has made some great cards using this technique.  Basically it involves stamping with water on distress inks to lift the colour and create a bleach effect.  This works well with both outline and solid stamps.

Here are some examples that I came up with when I gave the technique a go:

I genererously applied distress inks to the card in blues and purples and then spritzed the beautiful chrysanthemum from Uniko with water before stamping.  I love the white outline it gives against the rich colours.  The sentiment is a die cut from Penny Black.

The same technique but I used a solid fern stamp from Hero Arts and a fab sentiment from Stamplorations (one of our June sponsors).

For my last card I did actually use bleach to lift the colour out of the flowers as I was intrigued to see how effective it was.  I like the effect it gives.  The flowers are from Stamplorations and the sentiment is from Hero Arts.
I hope you like the faux bleaching technique and enjoy having a play with it this week!  The rest of the DT have more fab cards for you to enjoy over at the Less is More blog.
See you again soon,
Sarah x

  1. Three fab cards Sarah! I'm so impressed you tried with real bleach for card 3 - the June bravery award goes to you!! I think you've used great stamps for this technique as all three cards look brilliant and so eye catching. Thanks for the inspiration :)

  2. 3 beautiful samples Sarah! I nearly spat my tea out when I read you had tried real bleach....but what a gorgeous effect that had - I adore that particular card. Have a great week.
    Sharon xx

  3. A trio of beauty as usual Sarah and thrilled to see your work with the faux bleach, especially using REAL bleach. That's a 'heavy' idea but works a treat. Great take with the Uniko bloom too that's such an elegant flower and you've really made it pop with the vibrant blue distress inks. Have a fun week xx

  4. Three fabulous cards, loving the effect you achieved using actual bleach.

  5. Love, love these cards...especially the blue/purple thanks one.

  6. All three of these cards are have the technique down!

  7. All gorgeous makes Sarah, I love the different effects you achieved with basically the same process!
    Chrissie xx

  8. Not such an easy technique; for the first in a long time two of my tryings went into the old-paper! (Just not the right paper!)
Think yours all look gorgeous! Hugs, Gerrina

  9. Gorgeous cards. I'm hoping to have another go today and link up something CAS-worthy.

  10. stunning cards, I love them all.

  11. Got here in the end! Three fabulous makes, Sarah. I love the rich purple with that bloom, and I need that die cut thanks. Serious stash envy going on here! The leafy green works brilliantly too and well done for using bleach, a really great effect x
